River Sessions

Developing a personal relationship with the waters that flow where we live is transformational and unique to each individual. My office is located in a beautiful, old building on the banks of the magnificent Mississippi River. I am grateful to be able to offer the option of River Sessions in a secluded location at the water’s edge.

During River Sessions, clients are able to begin or further nurture a personal relationship with this incredible life force flowing through this landscape.

Nature provides the exact metaphors that we need to grow, heal, and exist as ourselves. Wild, undomesticated creatures help us to remember our own instincts and the undomesticated parts of ourselves that still thrive inside of us, longing to be expressed.

Sitting near the flowing river during sessions offers an opportunity for the natural world to interact with a client. It’s incredible to see who and what shows up to offer assistance in the present situation and to support the session.  I’ve encountered visits from River Otter, Duck, Goose, Rabbit, Great White Pelican, Sand Hill Crane, Blue Heron, and a dear family of Bald Eagles. A steady presence of beloved insects and arachnids: Grandmother Spider, Grasshopper, Ant; and plant friends Lotus, Mullein, Burdock, and so many others, grace the banks and hold the sessions with tenderness and deep rootedness.

Among the many supportive qualities that flowing water possesses, the River helps to ease the heaviness of pain and grief, allows emotions to flow, creates a tranquil space for peace to occur, and teaches us to move through life with greater ease or force, depending on what a situation calls for.

I would love to live like a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding.

Venturing into Nature is unpredictable and is not without risk. Before we meet at the River, I have clients sign an informed consent and release explaining that when meeting in public, there are limits to confidentiality and that walking on uneven pavement and upon loose gravel poses possible risks that the individual is responsible for deciding for themselves.

The river is located out the back door of my office building and at any time during the session or prior to, the client can change their mind and meet in my office instead.

During sessions, I provide offerings for the River, a chair with a 400 lb weight capacity, and an umbrella for shade.

As water takes whatever shape it is in,
So free may you be about who you become.

We are in this story the children of water. Any person who understands the value of being the parent of a child knows that this is a great benefit. Water can claim us as her children… Without water, nothing can be purified, nothing can be authentic. Water allows us to maintain the kind of consciousness that links us to the Otherworld…
